Weather Notes:-
3rd/4th February - Towards the end of a short-lived cold spell, West Linton, southwest of Edinburgh, had a minimum temperature of just below minus 21°C.
30th April - St. James' s Park had only 0.5mm of rain throughout April. Tottenham and Bromley (Kent) claimed to have had no measurable rain.
26th/27th August - Widespread continuous heavy rain over East Anglia with many places having over 100m of rain, and Brundall (Norfolk) east of Norwich, having over 200mm.

January - Very dull, wet and rather mild.
Most of January was rather mild or mild and unsettled. On the 6th, the temperature reached 11°C. Skies were mainly cloudy between rain bands, but on the 9th it was sunny for much of the day. Although the rain was generally light, on the 24th over 16mm fell. During the last week of the month, it became colder with some sleet and snow. After a maximum temperature of only 2.4°C on the 28th, there was a severe frost on the following night with a low close to minus 8°C.
February - Very mild and dull with below average rainfall.
There was a wintry start to February with severe frosts and a little snow. On the the 4th, the maximum temperature was only minus 1.9°C. It became milder at the end of the first week, and then the remainder of the month was mild and unsettled. Skies were often cloudy, although amounts of rain were mainly small. However, on the 23rd, over 7mm fell. The mildest weather occurred at the end of February, and on the 28th the maximum temperature was above 14°C.
March - Mild, wet and rather dull.
March was a very changeable month as a series of Atlantic weather systems crossed the country. It was often cloudy and windy, but rain and drizzle were generally light. However, on the 4th, nearly 9mm of rain was recorded. It was mild, and the cloudy nights helped to keep the month frost-free. There was a short cooler interlude at the end of the third week, and the maximum temperature on the 18th was only 7.9°C. The last week of March was mild with some sunshine.
April - Very dry and sunny with temperatures slightly above normal.
The first 10 days of April were slightly unsettled, and on the 1st it was cool and showery with a maximum temperature of only 9.1°C. and nearly 3mm of rain fell. Thereafter, measurable rain only fell on a further 2 days during April, and after the 10th it was completely dry. There was a frost on the night of the 11th/12th but it then became warm at times during the second half of the month with plenty of sunshine. On the 20th, the afternoon temperature exceeded 20°C.
May - Warm and rather dry with below average sunshine.
The opening 3 days of May were dry but rain fell on the 4th and the maximum temperature was only 12.4°C. During the second week it became dry and warm for a while, and on the 11th the maximum temperature was close to 24°C. There were several sunny days during the third and fourth weeks, but generally it was rather cloudy but fairly warm. The last week of the month was cooler and more unsettled and on the 31st nearly 13mm of rain was recorded.
June - Wet and rather cool with below average sunshine.
The first 3 weeks of June were mostly unsettled with large amounts of cloud at times, and at the beginning of the month it was rather cool or cool. On the 7th, over 15mm of rain fell and the temperature failed to rise above 14.6°C. After mid month, although the weather remained generally unsettled, there were more in the way of dry and pleasantly warm days. On the 19th, the afternoon temperature rose above 26°C.; and on the 22nd it was sunny all day.
July - Dull and dry with slightly above normal temperatures.
The start of July was unsettled with temperatures near normal. At the end of the first week it became warm, and during the second week there was some dry, sunny and very warm weather. On the 12th, the afternoon temperature rose above 30°C. It stayed warm after mid month but it became increasingly humid. On the 19th the maximum temperature was only 14.6°C, and the rest of the month was rather cool and unsettled. On the 29th, nearly 9mm of rain fell.
August - Very dull, cool and wet.
There were no sunny days during this very poor month, although on the 1st over 9 hours of sunshine were recorded . It was cool or very cool throughout the month, but the temperature briefly reached 21°C. on the 4th. There were only 9 days when no measurable rain occurred and there were several thundery downpours. On the 26th, it was dull and wet for most of the day with over 26mm of rain falling. It was very cool, too, with a maximum temperature of only 15.1°C.
September - Very cool and dull with above average rainfall.
There were no warm days during September, and the 8th, with a maximum temperature close to 19°C. was one of only a few days when the temperature reached average. There was plenty of dry weather during the month but it was often cloudy. On the 11th, the temperature only reached 11.3°C. A little more in the way of sunshine occurred towards the end of the month, but at the end of the last week it became wet, and on the 30th, over 40mm of rain was recorded.
October - Cold and rather sunny with near normal rainfall.
Some cool and sunny days occurred early in October, and after a sunny day on the 4th, the following night was frosty with a minimum temperature of minus 1°C. It was milder during the second week, and the high on rhe 10th was close to 17°C. However, although it was often sunny between rain-bands, the third and fourth weeks were cold. On the 21st, the temperature only reached 8.9°C. The end of the month was often wet, and on the 28th over 11mm of rain fell.
November - Very dull, rather cold and dry.
There were sunny spells early in the month, and on the 1st it was sunny for most of the day, but generally November was a dull, drizzly and misty month. It was mostly mild during the first 10 days, and the maximum temperature on both the 7th and 9th was 13°C. It then became colder. Amounts of rain were mainly small, but on the 26th, nearly 10mm fell. The end of the month was cold with overnight frost, and on the 30th rhe maximum temperature was only 2.3°C.
