1935 Mild Winter and Rather Warm Summer. Damaging Frost in May.

Weather Notes:-
16th/17th May - There was widespread frost that caused considerable damage to fruit and vegetables in England. There was also snow, up to 15cm on high ground in northern England and Scotland, where several roads were blocked by drifts up to 1 metre high. Even in Cambridge, there were temporary accumulations of 7cm.
23rd and 25th June - Severe thunderstorms produced over 100mm of rain at both Caernarfon (Gwynedd) and Aberfeldy (Perthshire) on the 23rd, and at Bath (Somerset) on the 25th.
24th July - The continuing drought across the western States of USA brought with it some high temperatures. An unofficial maximum of 43°C. was recorded in Chicago, although the official high for the City is only 41°C. recorded some 60 years later.

January - Dry and rather mild with near normal sunshine.
The beginning of January was very mild, and the temperature on the 2nd exceeded 12°C. Although there were spells of unsettled weather, pressure was relatively high and rain bands were weak. Fine weather during the second week produced some frosty nights, and the maximum temperature on the 9th was only 2.1°C. It then became milder, but after 6mm of ran fell on the 25th, the end of the month was colder with sunshine but also a little sleet and wet snow.
February - Mild, dull and wet.
The temperature rose above 14°C. on the 2nd, but the weather then became less mild, and during the second week it briefly became cold with slight frosts and a little sleet. On the 8th, the maximum temperature was only 2.4°C. Mild or very mild weather returned by mid month, and although it was often dry, the sky was often cloudy. Towards the end of the month, although mild, it became wet and windy at times. On the 27th, nearly 11mm of rain was recorded.
March - Very dry and rather mild with slightly below average sunshine.
The first few days of the month were mild and changeable, but during the second week it was much colder for a while with easterly winds and a few snow flurries. After an overnight frost, the temperature on the 9th only reached 1.7°C. The weather became milder but it was rather cloudy, although some sunny days occurred late in the third week. The temperature on the 20th reached 17°C., but the end of the month was unsettled, and on the 23rd over 4mm of rain fell.
April - Very dull, wet and rather cold.
There were only 9 days without measurable rain during April, and the opening few days were particularly cold and unsettled. The maximum temperature on the 3rd was only 6.8°C., and after a rare mainly sunny day on the 6th, the following day was wet with nearly 14mm of rain recorded. The changeable weather persisted until the end of the month with skies often cloudy. However, eventually it became milder, with temperatures reaching 16°C. on both the 23rd and the 29th.
May - Cool and rather dry with below average sunshine.
There were a few dry, sunny and warm days early in May, and the temperature on the 6th reached 23°C. The 10th was a sunny day, but generally there was plenty of rather cool and cloudy weather. Unusually cold air spread from the north on the 16th and the top temperature on that day was only 8.3°C. Frost occurred on the following night, and on the 17th snow fell. It then became less cool but it remained unsettled. On the 20th over 15mm of rain was recorded.
June - Very wet and rather warm with slightly below average sunshine.
The first 3 weeks of June were mostly changeable with temperatures close to normal. However, the maximum temperature on the 3rd was only 16.6°C., and at the beginning of the second week there were some cool nights. During the last 10 days of the month there were warm and sunny days but also some thundery downpours. The 24th was sunny all day and the temperature almost reached 29°C., but on the following day over 20mm of rain was measured.
July - Sunny, warm and rather dry.
After a warm start to July, it became cooler and unsettled for a while. On the 2nd, nearly 28mm of rain was measured. During the second week it became sunny and warm. The afternoon temperature exceeded 29°C on the 14rh, but then another cooler and changeable interlude occurred after mid month. The maximum temperature on the 18th was 19.5°C., but after the 20th the rest of July was dry, and during the last week it became warm at times.
August - Rather warm with below average rainfall and near normal sunshine.
No measurable rain fell during the first 11 days of August, and it became very warm and sunny. On the 10th there was unbroken sunshine, and the temperature rose above 29°C. Changeable weather during the second week was followed by a cooler interval around mid month. Several more warm and sunny days occurred, but the last week became unsettled and cooler. Nearly 15mm of rain fell on the 30th, and the maximum temperature on the 31st was only 17.4°C.
September - Rather wet with above average sunshine and near normal temperatures.
The first few days of September were changeable, but at the end of the first week the weather became dry and rather warm with plenty of sunshine. The temperature on the 12th almost reached 22°C. After mid month it became unsettled again, and the 16th and 17th were particularly windy. On the 17th, a gust of 59kn occurred. Temperatures fell close to normal, and after nearly 12mm of rain fell on the 29th, the maximum temperature on the 30th was only 14.5°C.
October - Below average temperatures and rainfall, and near normal sunshine.
The weather was rather changeable during October, although there were several dry and bright days. On the 10th, over 11mm of rain fell but the following day was sunny. It was mild at times during the third week, and the temperature on the 16th almost reached 17°C. At the end of the week it became windy for a while, but after cold northwesterlies died down on the night of the 20th/21st a frost occurred, and the maximum temperature on the 21st was only 8.6°C.
November - Very wet with slightly above average temperatures and slightly below normal sunshine.

Fine days were a rarity during this month, and on the 7th nearly 26mm of rain was recorded. Temperature levels were mostly around normal, but during the last week there was another short fine, but cold, interlude. After an overnight frost, the maximum temperature on the 25th was only 4.3°C.

Dense freezing fog formed on the night of the 22nd/ 23rd and persisted through the day with a top temperature of only minus 1.2°C. The last week of December was milder but unsettled. The temperature almost reached 11°C. on the 27th, and nearly 8mm of rain fell on the 28th.
