1993 Cool with a particularly cold Autumn

January -�Dull, mild and rather wet.�
The first 2 days were dry, the only occasion when 2 consecutive dry days occurred during this changeable and windy month.�Much of the rain was light, although falls of over 10mm occurred on�both the 6th and the 10th.�It was rather cold with sharp frosts�at the beginning of January, and on the night of the 2nd/3rd the temperature fell to minus 6.5�C. Only 1 more air frost occurred after the 4th and there were only 2 more rather cold days. The rest of the month was mostly mild or very mild. On 9 occasions the maximum temperature was 12 or 13�C., peaking at 13.1�C on the 16th.

February - Dull, very dry and rather cold.
This was a quiet anticyclonic month with extensive cloud cover. Air frost� occurred only�on 2 nights, yet there were many cold or rather cold days. On the 4th the temperature failed to rise above 2.8�C., and there were just 3 days when the temperature rose above 10�C. �Precipitation often fell in the form of drizzle. although sleet and snow fell on the last 3 days of the month. Unusually, there were 14 days when precipitation fell, but was too light to measure.�

March - Dry, rather sunny and�with temperatures close to normal.
A few flurries of snow fell on the 1st,� but no measurable rain fell during the first 20 days of the month. Thereafter, 2 short spells of unsettled weather occurred, but with recordable rain only falling on 4 days during March. It was cold during the first 4 days, and on the 2nd the maximum temperature was only 3.7�C. It became warmer during the second week and on the 15th the high was 19.7�C. During the second half of the month, temperatures were near, or rather above, normal but there were several frosty nights.
April - Mild, rather dull and wet.
There were no air frosts during April and only 2 cold days. On the 1st, the maximum temperature was 7.8�C and nearly 28mm of rain fell. The following fortnight was quite wet at times with temperatures close to, or a little below,average. �After mid month it was warmer, especially on the last few days of April. On the 30th, the maximum temperature was 22.6�C. There was plenty of dry weather, although some rain occurred, mainly between the 22nd and 26th. On the 23rd there was heavy,�thundery rain with hail amounting to over 11mm.�
May - Rather dull with temperatures and rainfall close to normal.
The first week was mainly dry, but after a high of 21.4� C. on the 1st it became rather cool or cool with a high on the 2nd of only 12.8�C. �There was some light rain during the second week, but it became warmer for a while with a maximum temperature of 23.8�C. on the 11th. After mid month the weather was mixed. There were some fine, warm days, �but also some cool, cloudy days with outbreaks of rain. On the 20th, 14mm of rain fell, but the poorest weather mainly occurring during the last week.
June - Rather warm and sunny�with below average rainfall.�
A rather cool and unsettled start to the month gave way to warm, sunny weather after the 3rd, and on the 8th the maximum temperature was 28.5�C. The following day was also very warm but the weather broke down on the 10th, and it remained changeable, and occasionally rather cool, until the 19th. On the 16th, over 21mm of rain fell with a maximum temperature of 16.6�C., but from the 18th there was no measurable rain for the remainder of the month. Temperatures during the last fortnight were mostly nearly, or rather above, normal, although some warm days occurred during the last week.
July - Cool and rather dull and wet.

The first 8 days of the month were dry with sunny periods. It was warm at first, and on the 4th the maximum temperature was 27.9�C. The rest of the month was changeable with winds mainly from between southwest and northwest. It was cool or very cool at times, especially between the 9th and the 13th, and from the 24th to the 27th, In total, there were 12 days when the temperature failed to reach 20�C., and there were only 2 more days when the temperature rose above normal.

August - Sunny but cool and dry.
There was plenty of dry weather during August, and almost all the rain was the result of 2 heavy bursts that gave daily totals of nearly 16 and 12mm on the 11th and 21st respectively.�Temperatures were mostly near, or rather below, �normal during the first 3 weeks, although it was fairly warm from the 18th to the 21st , and on the 14th the temperature reached 26.4�C. From the 22nd to the 27th it was very cool. The high on the 22nd was 16.5�C, and on the night of the 28th/29th the temperature fell to 5.6�C.

On the 1st the temperature�reached 23.8�C., but there were only 3 other days during the month when the temperature exceeded 20�C. On both the 27th and 28th the temperature failed to rise above 11�C. After a cold start to the month with highs below 8�C. on the first 2 days, it became much milder. On the 4th and 5th , the maximum �temperatures were 17.0�C and 16.9�C respectively. Temperatures were then mostly near normal until mid month. After mid month it was mainly cold or very cold�with frost on most nights. On 3 nights the temperature fell�to minus 4�C or lower, and on both the 22nd and 28th maxima were only just above 1�C. �No measurable�rain fell during the first week of November, and through the rest of the month there were only 5 days when rainfall amounted to�1mm or more.�Snow fell between the 21st and the 24th, lying to a depth of 1cm on the morning of the 21st.,

Slight overnight frosts occurred between the 25th and the 28th, the only ones of the month. The month ended somewhat milder and wet with�nearly 13mm ofrain falling on the 30th.�
