1932 Dull and Rather Dry. A Cold Spring.

Weather Notes:-
13th July - Cranwell (Lincolnshire) had nearly 200 mm of rain in 72 hours between the 11th and 13th.
12th August - Rickmansworth (Hertfordshire) had golfball-sized hail and a total of 57mm of rain in 45 minutes.
19th August - Maximum temperatures were 36 or perhaps 37°C in the more urban parts of London and Essex.
In London...
January - Very mild, rather dry and dull.
The temperature was close to minus 6°C. at dawn on the 1st, but values then rose steadily, and most of the following 3 weeks were mild or very mild. The temperature reached 13°C. on the 3rd, and on the 6th nearly 15mm of rain was measured. Generally, there was plenty of dry, if rather cloudy, weather. although there were a few sunny days around mid month. During the last week it was dry, and cold for a while, with a maximum temperature on the 28th of only 2.4°C.
February - Very dry, dull and rather cold.
Pressure was high across the British Isles through most of February. The first 9 days were dry, and although sleet or snow produced some measurable rain on the 10th, there were only 2 further days when rain was recorded. It was cold during the second week, and the maximum temperature on the 11th was only 0.9°C., but it then became somewhat milder. On both the 22nd and 23rd the temperature rose close to 9 °C. and on the 24th over 3mm of rain fell.
March - Cold, rather dry and sunny.
Winds were predominantly from a northwesterly direction during March bringing a mixture of sunshine and showers. Some of the showers were wintry during the first half of the month, and on the 12th the temperature only reached 3.3°C. The following night was frosty with temperature falling below minus 4°C. After the 19th, no further frosts occurred, during March, but it was often chilly, breezy and fairly unsettled. On the 22nd, nearly 7mm of rain was recorded.
April - Cold, dull and rather wet.
Most of April was cloudy and changeable. There were only 8 days without measurable rain, although daily totals were generally small. The poorest weather occurred around the middle of the month. There were ground frosts, and on the 14th, nearly 10mm of rain fell. On the 17th the maximum temperature was only 6.2°C. Towards the end of the month there were some warmer days with some sunshine, and on the 30th the afternoon temperature exceeded 18°C.
May - Very dull, wet and rather cool.
The early part of May was cool and showery with some clear and chilly nights. On the 9th, it rained nearly all day, producing a total of over 25mm. It was very cool, too, with a maximum temperature of only 8.0°C. During the second week, temperatures rose, and after mid month there were a few warm days with sunny periods. On the 20th, the temperature reached 23°C., but at the end of May temperatures were lower with several more dull and fairly wet days.
June - Very dry and rather cool with near normal sunshine.
High pressure, mainly to the north of the British Isles, brought plenty of dry weather. However, there were several cloudy damp days with very cool and fresh northeasterly winds during the first fortnight. On the 4th, the temperature only reached 11.8°C. No measurable rain fell between the 12th and 29th, but warm weather was confined to the last week of June. On the 27th, the maximum was 26°C., but the month ended cooler, with over 2mm of rain on the 30th.
July - Dull with below average temperatures and near normal rainfall.
The month began rather cool and cloudy, but the second week became very warm and sunny for a while. The 10th was a sunny day and the afternoon temperature almost reached 29°C. After mid month, the weather was mostly cool, and often cloudy, unseasonably breezy and changeable. On the 18th, the day was cloudy and damp with the temperature only rising to 15.0°C. Much of the rain during July was light, but on the 25th over 20mm of rain was recorded.
August - Warm and dry with above average sunshine.
Temperatures were close to normal at the beginning of the month, and on the 1st, nearly 10mm of rain fell, but towards the end of the first week the weather became warm or very warm with sunny periods. There was a brief cooler interlude around mid month, but it then became hot and humid. On the 19th, the temperature exceeded 33°C. and on the following night the minimum was close to 19°C. It then became cooler, and the high on the 22nd was only 18.9°C.
September - Dull with above normal rainfall and below average temperatures.
The first fortnight was changeable and often rather cloudy. However, rainfall was generally light and there were several fairly warm days. On both the 2nd and 14th the temperature reached 24°C. During the third week, the weather became increasingly unsettled and eventually much cooler. On the 18th, nearly 24mm of rain fell, and on the 23rd the highest temperature was only 12.1°C. The last week of September was sunny at times, but with no more warm days.
October - Very wet and rather cold with near normal sunshine.
There were some reasonably mild days early in October, and on the 1st, the temperature was above 17°C. It then became cooler, often breezy, and unsettled. There were only 7 days during the month without measurable rain, but the heaviest rain occurred during the last 10 days. On the 23rd, nearly 31mm of rain fell and during the last week it became cold at times. On the 28th, the temperature only reached 6.7°C., and a ground frost occurred on the following night.
November - Very dull and dry with below average temperatures.
The first week of November was mostly cloudy and mild. The temperature on the 4th reached 14°C. During the second week it was colder, with slight frosts. It was often damp, although amounts of rain were small, and around the middle of the month it became cold for a while. The temperature on the 18th, only reached 4.2°C. After a rare sunny day on the 21st, over 7mm of rain fell on the 22nd, but this was followed by a rather cold, cloudy, and dry, end to the month.
December - Very dry, sunny and rather mild.
